ELA Achievement Scale and Interpretation

1. Purpose

This document defines the official Achievement Scale used by the English Language Academy (ELA) to evaluate student academic performance at the end of each program level. The scale ensures consistency in grading and provides a clear interpretation of student achievement for students, parents, employers, sponsors, and admissions officers.

2. Achievement Scale

The following scale is used to assess student performance across all 10 ELA program levels:

3. Interpretation and Use of the Scale

- A minimum overall score of 70% is required to successfully complete a level and advance to the next level.

- Final scores are based on cumulative assessments, including exams and quizzes, class participation, homework and projects, and speaking, listening, reading, and writing performance.

- Students scoring below 70% are considered not to have met the required learning outcomes and must repeat the level.

4. Alignment with Program Levels

This Achievement Scale applies to all 10 ELA program levels. Student performance is evaluated based on the learning outcomes defined for each level in the document: ELA Program Levels and CEFR Descriptors.

5. Distribution and Accessibility

The ELA Achievement Scale is included in the Student Handbook, referenced in all course syllabi, explained in Student Achievement Reports, published on the ELA website under Academic Policies, and made available upon request to parents, employers, sponsors, and admissions officers.

6. Review and Updates

This policy and the Achievement Scale are reviewed annually by the Academic Director to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with curriculum and accreditation standards.
