Position Description and requirements for faculty position: ESL Teacher/ English Language Academy
Summary
ESL Teachers are responsible for the proper presentation of second language acquisition programs through the implementation of ELA Methodology, Curricula and Guidelines using established course materials to promote the fastest comprehension and usage of the English language. ESL Teachers report directly to and are supervised by the Academic Director and are provided additional support by the Assistant to the Academic Director.
Specific Areas of Responsibility
Presentation of ESL Classes
Preparing Lesson Plans for each class in accordance with OLS Methodology, Curricula and Syllabi
Following ELA Class and Break Schedule
Presenting ESL activities using all established course materials
Transforming Course Goals & Objectives into useful and fun classroom activities
Ensuring Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are reached using written and oral quizzes, tests and section tests
Applying knowledge of English to provide students with correction of pronunciation and grammatical errors
Recordkeeping & Student Performance
Scanning Student ID Cards
Maintaining Student Attendance Record
Preparing Lesson Plans for each class in accordance with ELA Methodology, Curricula and Syllabi
Recording written and oral quiz, test and section test scores as well as homework grades Providing students with their original Student Academic Progress Reports at the end of each level
Providing the Academic Director with a photocopy of each Student Academic Progress Report at the end of each level
Submitting Student Referral: Academic Counseling when necessary
Distributing and collecting Student Satisfaction Surveys (SSS)
Training, Performance & Professional Development
Participating in regular faculty/staff meetings
Participating in orientation and training sessions offered by the Academic Director
Participating in Bi-annual Teacher Performance Evaluations
Participating in Ongoing Professional Development (OPD) and in service trainings
offered by ELA
The following requirements are for all prospective language teachers in order to be considered for an ESL faculty position:
Educational Credentials for all levels
Beginner level teacher requirements:
Bachelor's degree in TESOL, English, Linguistics, Education or equivalent studies / state teaching certification / TESOL Certification
Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with a minimum of 6 months of experience in language teaching
6 months experience in the field or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) certification
Demonstrate near-native proficiency in English
Flexibility to teach different beginner class levels and schedules
Intermediate level teacher requirements:
Bachelor's degree in TESOL, English, Linguistics, Education or equivalent studies / state teaching certification / TESOL Certification
Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with a minimum of 6 months of experience in language teaching
6 months experience in the field or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) certification
Demonstrate near-native proficiency in English
Flexibility to teach different beginner and intermediate class levels and schedules
Advanced level teacher requirements:
Bachelor's degree in TESOL, English, Linguistics, Education or equivalent studies / state teaching certification / TESOL Certification
Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with a minimum of 6 months of experience in language teaching
6 months experience in the field or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), TESOL (Teaching

Master's degree highly preferred
Flexibility to teach different beginner, intermediate and advanced class levels and schedules
All level teacher requirements:
- All full time instructors are required to participate in one form of professional development and/or in service training offered by ELA on an annual basis. ELA promotes attendance at professional meetings and provides limited funds for this purpose annually. ELA encourages faculty and staff members to participate in these meetings, such as conferences, training, participating on panels, and organizing and administering programs. All eligible instructors are entitled to $550.00 per year towards development activities that will contribute to the teacher's professional development, provided that the course is pre-approved by the Academic Director and a certificate is issued and presented to the school. The school's financial contribution towards professional development will be made in the form of reimbursement once teachers have completed the course of study and presented a certificate.
- Ability to pass an in-depth grammar presentation skills examination
- Willingness to learn and implement new teaching methods, skills and techniques
- Desire to help students achieve their individual language learning goals through grammatical explanations and descriptions, careful correction of pronunciation and grammatical errors, and through the use of guided conversations and interactive communication exercises
- Ability to properly create lesson plans and maintain attendance sheets according to established OLS guidelines
- Willingness to follow ELA Teacher Classroom Guidelines
- Willingness to uphold and promote ELA policies
- Ability to maintain a professional and presentable appearance
- Integrity to handle challenges and complications professionally following ELA policies
